Dr. Bianca Ranney is a psychologist and founder of Sunrise Psychological Services. After receiving her Bachelor‘s degree in Psychology from California State University, Fullerton, she began her graduate training at a men’s addiction rehabilitation facility. She has continued to work within the substance abuse population for four years. Dr. Ranney has also been trained in EMDR by the EMDR institute. By displaying compassion and empathy, Dr. Ranney strives to create a supportive environment for each client in which they feel safe and comfortable. Dr. Ranney considers herself their number one advocate throughout their journey of healing.
Dr. Ranney's focus is to help individuals and families heal, energize, and become aware of their inner strengths. She achieves this by providing a neutral safe space, listening to your concerns, and customizing a treatment plan. Dr. Ranney's experience enables her to offer effective, individualized psychological care. Dr. Ranney specializes in depressive and anxiety disorders, trauma (specifically, victims of crime) and substance abuse treatment. She works with adults, children, adolescents, families, and couples. Dr. Ranney has been trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy (EMDR).
CBT: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy focuses on challenging and changing distorted ways of thinking and behaving, improving emotional regulation and developing coping skills that help with current issues.
DBT: Dialectical Behavioral Therapy is a type of cognitive behavioral therapy that teaches people how to live in the moment, cope with stress in a healthy manner, regulate emotions, and improve relationships with others. DBT introduces individuals to acceptance and change - a concept that is difficult and often avoided by many.
EMDR: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy is an interactive psychotherapy technique used to address and relieve psychological stress. It is a treatment tool used for trauma and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) that relieves emotional distress, transforms thought processes and reduces psychological arousal.
At Sunrise, we promise to be there for you every step of your journey. Our goal is to help you grow from your struggles, heal from your pain, and move forward to where you want to be in your life. Each sunrise brings a new day with new hopes for a new beginning.
Victims of Crime
The California Victim Compensation program is designed to help victims pay bills and expenses that are a result from a violent crime. Here at Sunrise, we can assist in applying for victim compensation. Sunrise will also assist if you need help finding a local victim advocate. If you qualify, the California Victim Compensation program will compensate for mental health services.
Sunrise is providing in-person Anger Management groups Saturday mornings! Stop running away from anger and learn to embrace this emotion! Our group takes on a more therapeutic approach; rather than just talking about how to ”manage” anger, we explore it. We welcome court mandated clients - progress letters will always be provided. Call to enroll! Seats are always limited!
We hope to get our other groups (trauma processing, domestic violence, parenting) up and running as soon as it is safe and possible.
At Sunrise, we understand the struggle of not always having transportation, which is why we offer in-home therapy - in most areas throughout Orange County and Los Angeles County. Our offices are located in Commerce and Newport Beach.
Department of Child and Family Services
Dr. Ranney has ten years working with families who have open or voluntary cases with the Department of Children and Family Services - Orange County, Los Angeles County and Riverside County. She has worked with clients providing family court mandated services such as: individual and family psychotherapy, anger management, parenting skills and domestic violence education. Progress letters needed for court hearings are always provided for clients and social workers.
Depression, fear, and anxiety are some of the most common and uncomfortable emotions that we can experience at some point in our lives. Through counseling and treatment, we are able to help you recover motivation, perspective, and joy that you once had in your life.
Many individuals can experience symptoms associated with painful and traumatic circumstances. Anxiety, fear, and hopelessness are a few emotions that can linger post traumatic events. We can help you overcome these symptoms and guide you through the process of grief and healing.
Relationship counseling can be beneficial to couples or families who are looking to strengthen their emotional connection, in all stages of their relationship. Therapy sessions are held with couples or parent and child. It is a supportive place to discuss issues and solutions to better strengthen your relationship and strengthen parenting skills.
