Desiree Sanchez-Magana, MSW, Clinical Social Worker
Desiree is a first generation Latinx, college graduate. Desiree obtained a Master's degree in Social Work at California State University, Long Beach. She earned her Bachelors degree in Human Services at California State University, Fullerton. Go Titans! Her undergraduate program required completion of three internships. But Desiree being the overachiever, completed six before graduation. Desiree wanted an enriching experience, so she diversified her placements. She has interned at a domestic violence shelter, a hospice center, at an agency providing group therapy, at a reentry agency, and with the immigrant community while abroad in Barcelona Spain. Desiree's favorite placement was at an agency spending a year facilitating groups. The program fueled her passion for group therapy. Desiree's style is a person-centered and strength-based, empowering approach. Desiree enjoys witnessing clients coming together as a community to learn, heal, and grow alongside each other. Her aim is to continue to help individuals gain insight and feel empowered through her groups.

Our focus is to help individuals and families heal, energize, and become aware of their inner strengths. We achieve this by providing a neutral safe space, listening to your concerns, and customizing a treatment plan. Our experience enables us to offer effective, individualized psychological care. We specialize in depressive and anxiety disorders, complex trauma, relationship issues, phase of life transitions, grief and loss, and substance abuse treatment. We work with adults, children, adolescents, families, and couples. We have been trained in Mindfulness practices, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy (EMDR).
Mindfulness: Mindfulness is a step in emotional healing. Mindfulness is being able to turn toward and acknowledge our difficult thoughts and feelings with a spirit of openness and curiosity. Mindfulness helps us learn how to be more aware of thoughts, feelings, surroundings, and situations to reduce automatic unhealthy reactions.
CBT: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy focuses on identifying and reframing distorted ways of thinking and behaving. CBT can improve emotional regulation and developing coping skills that help with current issues.
DBT: Dialectical Behavioral Therapy is a type of cognitive behavioral therapy that teaches people how to live in the moment, cope with stress in a healthy manner, regulate emotions, and improve relationships. DBT introduces individuals to acceptance and change - a concept that is difficult and often avoided by many.
EMDR: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy is an interactive psychotherapy technique used to address and relieve psychological stress. It is a treatment tool used for trauma and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) that relieves emotional distress, transforms thought processes, and reduces psychological arousal.
